The Kingdom: Peace and Justice.

Isaiah 9:6-7

9:6. For unto us a Child is born, unto us a Son is given; and the government will be upon His shoulder. And His name will be called Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.
9:7. Of the increase of His government and peace there will be no end, upon the throne of David and over His kingdom, to order it and establish it with judgment and justice from that time forward, even forever. The zeal of the Lord of hosts will perform this.

Isaiah talks about a king who will come in the future. One that we know as the person of Jesus Christ. He will arrive as a child who is born in the usual way. A gift of joy and pleasure to his parents. He will be a son who is to carry the weight and burden of governmental authority.

He will be the kind of person deserving of the names listed here. I looked up the original words and the list reads like this:

Miraculous, Counselor, Strong, Warrior, Father being Forever, Prince of Peace.

The comma’s (,) separate the individual words of his name.

The life of Jesus was miraculous from his birth, to all the fulfilled prophecies his life contained and all the way through his demonstration of power over death and his returning to sit on his throne. While he was physically present on earth, his disciples were continuously being counseled by him. Upon his return to heaven he left the Holy Spirit to remain with us as our counselor. Jesus is strong both in character and power over earthly forces. He is our warrior, or champion who will return to claim what is his. He and the Father are one and are eternal, lasting forever. His true desire isn’t for punishment or hostility but for living together in peace.

The increase of his government, or the strength of his realm has no end. There is nothing after it. Jesus will take over the throne that was set up for David, and will be the king to end all kings. He will judge, if any judgement is required. His verdicts will be fair, just and virtuous.

This prediction of Isaiah, fulfilled in Jesus is true. It should be held as an unshakeable fact. The zeal, or passion of God of Hosts, or the Commander in Chief, will make it happen.

When wondering what God has in store for his kingdom. There is no need for imagination. It will endure forever, and the order of it has already been set. It can’t be questioned, changed or denied. When life on earth seems to be always changing and unpredictable, this is one point to count on.
