True Disciples, Day 18

February 8th, 2009

Key Scripture:
John 15:8. "By this My Father is glorified, that you bear much fruit; so you will be My disciples.

Key Idea:
Bear much fruit: so shall ye be My disciples--Let me beg every reader to consider these words most seriously. Be not

content with the thought of gradually doing a little more or better work. In this way it may never come. Take the

words, much fruit, as the revelation of your heavenly Vine of what you must be, of what you can be. Accept fully the

impossibility, the utter folly of attempting it in your strength. Let the words call you to look anew upon the Vine,

an undertaking to live out its heavenly fullness in you. Let them waken in you once again the faith and the

confession: "I am a branch of the true Vine; I can bear much fruit to His glory, and the glory of the Father."
-- Murray

Pray for revelation:
say to Him that you are His branch to bear much fruit; that you are ready to be His disciple in His own meaning of

the word. My disciples. Blessed Lord, much fruit is the proof that Thou the true Vine hast in me a true branch, a

disciple wholly at Thy disposal. Give me, I pray Thee, the childlike consciousness that my fruit is pleasing to

Thee, what Thou countest much fruit.
-- Murray

Key words:
Bear Fruit, Be a Disciple.

It may seem overwhelming to just jump in and totally be a disciple. But that is what needs to be done. To decide to

be atached to the vine or not to be. A branch with a damaged connection is doomed to eventually die off. At the very

best it may live in the vine, but its damaged connection will take away from its fruit bearing ability.

All that anybody can do is choose to make a daily decision to be attached just for today. Through the course of the

day, keep the idea of remaining attached in mind. Let the concept of doing each little thing in your life be a

chance to touch base with Jesus the vine.

Don't think about all those bushel basketws of fruit. Don't think about all those spiritual gifts and fruits that

the Bible talks about. There is nothing that you ever can do to make it all happen. They all can only be achieved by

a force much bigger than anybody on earth. Only God can make those abundant fruits happen.

Does that thing that you do honor Jesus? Is how you handle a situation a way that would be pleasing to God? In those

small ways, and in just staying prayerfully attached, let God work to produce fruits. Don't worry about fruit. You

will be amazed at what God can do when you stop trying to make fruit of your own, and let him produce it through

you.
